Forest Fire

From the Ground Up

I am a pine tree. The first thing that grows after a forest fire are pine trees. We burn ourselves to the ground in addiction, and if we are lucky, there is new growth. I have just begun to emerge, and everything is new to me. The water. The soil. The sunlight. The air. What will become of me? What will become of us? Can we withstand another fire? Will we continue to grow, or will we burn ourselves to the ground yet again?
